This is a guide for people just starting out in the Divx
scene and have no idea how to play divx movies. It is also a guide for
people who are having problems and have no idea what to do.
Common Errors:
1. The movie plays but there is no sound! OR The
sound in the movie plays but there is no video!
This is usually caused by you not having the right codec
installed. Make you that you have Divx
3.11 alpha, Divx
4.0 beta, and the SMR
patch installed. If they already are, try reinstalling them. If that
doesn't work, try using WMP
(Windows Media Player) 6.4. If one of those solutions
doesn't work, then I have no clue how to fix it! Maybe update your video
card drivers?
2. When I open a .avi (or .mpg) file it opens
Winzip (it doesn't have to be winzip, it could be any program other than
WMP (Windows Media Player).
This is a simple case of file extension mis-association.
That just means that your movies are trying to open themselves using the
wrong program! It is very easy to fix. Along the line you changed what
program your .avi files open with. All you have to do is right click any .avi
file, then select 'open with' then select windows media player then select
the box that says 'always use this program to open this type of file' then
hit ok. No big deal, just a common mistake that a lot of people dont know
how to fix!
3. I don't know where to get any movies!
Just search in edonkey2000
for Divx! Otherwise check out some of the message boards in the links
section!
4. My movies freeze up at this one scene!
Very easy to fix. All you have to do is install Divx
Anti-Freeze!
5. I have a partial Divx movie that I want to watch
but I get an error in WMP!
Just download DivFix
then follow the steps in the DivFix
Guide!
6. When I watch my movies they are all jumpy and
the sound is garbled.
This is either a codec problem or you have a slow
computer! To fix the first just make sure that you have Divx
3.11 alpha and Divx
4.0 beta installed. To fix the second you can try using different
players that take up less resources such as the GDIVX
player or just buy a faster computer!
